As mentioned in previous posts, there is a hotel in Mokra Gora which has an excellent restaurant, and it is here we met Aleksandra. As a local of the village, Aleksandra knew all there was to know and also spoke excellent English, which was extremely helpful to us! We first got chatting in the small, smokey (smoking indoors is still very much permitted in Serbia!) bar/cafĂ© near our cabin, and we stayed for hours talking and drinking the local beer (Stephen and I did anyway, Aleksandra does not drink!). We arranged to meet again the following evening, but this time we chose to go back to the hotel bar as it was less smokey, Stephen couldn’t care less but we hated the smell of cigarette smoke on our hair and clothes! We met once more after this where we took these photos and drank coffee. Aleksandra really enhanced our trip to Mokra Gora, we learnt so many things by speaking to her that we would have not known otherwise, and it was a pleasure getting to know someone from a different life to our own. She embodies everything that we loved about Serbia and its kind and welcoming people, and I really hope that we meet again one day – and if you read this Aleksandra, I hope you do, we will make you some pasta when we come back! Thankyou for the fantastic memories! x
